For those of you guys that have a web site, do you get much business from it or is it just a referenece point for when you are talking to potential customers.
As in, do many folks contact you and say they say your web site?

I don't have or need one. But looking at poorly done websites gives me a poor impression of the company. Also, I see little on most sites that really is of use. I think a web page with a nice logo, a business perspective, and all contact information clearly indicated is enough. Dont use strange colored /sized / formatted fonts, animated graphics, weird backgrounds etc. Make it look like an all business webpage, professional all the way.
Mine is simply a brochure for clients and Architects to check out some of our work.
If you rely on it for work you are going to have get into some serious advertising non stop in my opinion.
I think a website may not necessarily get more business but it can help people decide to go with you.
I agree the website appearance could you make people decide to stay away if its an ordinary website.

While I don’t currently have a web site, I think it would be a great tool to show of a portfolio. If you printed the web address on your business card, anyone would be able to see a plethora of pictures from past projects at the touch of a button. That would definitely help a customer in deciding whether to hire you. The web site’s home page could also serve to provide information you would like to advertise about your business, but won’t fit neatly on your business card.

I think that you are losing out if you do not have a website. You have to realize that the younger generations currently will use google and find a service person if they do not know of one by word of mouth.
I recently had gutters installed on my home and wanted to see the workmanship of the people I was interested in. I did not have to ask them to send me photos of their work, nor did I have to work to find some of their background.
Just make sure that the site looks decent, and has some photos of your good work. This will immediately place you above the others that do not have a site.
Hello, I have been in the handyman business (for over 7 years) and now a General Contractor for a few years. I think it is good to have a personal business website because you can have a business card which shows your business logo and business website address. Also adding your state general contractor license to the business card and to the website is good too.
But I do believe the website should be simple, quick to load, easy to navigate. Here is an example of our business website.
