Well Hung Toilet

HotDog | Posted in General Discussion on February 14, 2006 02:55am

OK, here we go…. Rough plumbing has been done and the client wants a wall hung toilet. Too bad the wall has been framed with 2X4’s! The only encounter I’ve had with one was at LAX after a ‘restless’ flight from Mexico.
Caroma, Duravit, Geberit or Amrican Standard?
How is the ease of installation factor?

    well Dog,
the wall mounted ones I see the plumbers install are mounted to a heavy cast iron bracket that fastens to the floor and has four threaded rods sticking out of the wall......

I had one of those in my basement.  It hung off of a metal bracket (like the previous poster said), but the bracket didn't mount to the floor.  Instead, it was bolted to 2X6 studs.

Every couple of years, it would leak at the wax seal.  Too much flex, I guess.  Finally, I bought a toilet that sits on the floor and flushes to the rear.  I did need to make a base for the toilet because the toilet horn and the flange didn't meet.  Problem solved.

Your post title said well hung, so I thought it was about me. Guess not.

not much easy about a wall mount toilet that i can see except sure makes mop'n the floor easy...  i have a few in my warehouse with the mounts... the mounts are at least 100lbs  cast iron like was told... only reason i have em is they were installed in a new space and removed before they were ever used... they were in a 2x8 wall they have all thread where the flange can be raised & lowered someway to matchup with the toilet...  I've considered use'n em a few times but everytime i looked at em... figured it was more trouble than it's worth... I always pictured some 600lb woman pull'n it off the wall... not something you even want to think about much less paint a picture in your mind of...

My sister in law could wrestle SUMO! Thank god they don't come over to inspect and test my work. Forget about the skinny Asian thing.I've been skating the web and I actually see what the client sees. The wall ahng looks nice and clean, a little weird, but space saving.
If they pay I play!Although there is nothing worse than ripping out your own sweet work, pay or no pay!Cheers to all!

        Hot Dog,

I'm not a plumber, but I have seen a lot of these put in over the years, and I haven't ever seen a wall mount with a tank. Which means you would need a flush valve in addition to the carrier.

A few years ago some one came out with a wall hung that had a tank that was mounted in the wall between the studs.Don't remember who it was.

There seem to be at least a couple that have tanks that are hidden in the wall. A quick Google search came up with:http://my.estoresnw.com/kap/Product.asp?CategoryID=551&ItemID=2085

A similar toilet was just replaced at a trim job we done. The plumber got it at Westwater Supply here in Springfield.

I installed a Geberit about a year ago.  Straightforward installation, looks great, and the client loves it.  The new bathroom was in an attic, and it eased plumbing installation since the drain lines didn't have to go horizontally through floor joists. (Thee inch pipes a bear to go perpendicularly.)  Looks cool...
