I’m currently putting a bathroom in an unfinished basement and the homeowners have a problem with water purcolating up through the concrete floor.I have installed a length of perforated pipe to collect the water and drain it off to the sump pump….to no avail. the problem occurs in the same spot each time weather it rains or not, there is no consistancy that way.I should point out that it’s about 4ft.from the foundation wall and the wall is dry so….I don’t know anymore any help would be appreciated.Larry S.

Larry, there may be a broken water line under the slab that allows water to seep up. If it is on the house side of the meter you can turn off all faucets and record the meter readings over night. You may also have a broken sewer line but I think the smell would reveal that.
good luck

unfortunately the water line is as far away from the wet spot as it could be and the house has a septic tank and you are right it would smell if it were sewer gases...I'm beginning to think we should collect, bottle and sell the stuff as miracle water! Larry

Hi Larry,
When you say that you installed a lenght of perforated pipe, do you mean that you cut open the concrete slab and dug a trench to install the pipe from the area of concern towards the sump pit?
The only thing that I could come up with would be that the slab was layed over a layer of improperly drained material like clay or such. I don't know where you're located so I can only guess at the soil conditions.

*Hi Gabe, I did exactly that,up came the concrete in went the pipe (I even covered it with silt paper)and then I layed in gravel and concreted over it.The soil (1"-2"rock and sand)underneath was slightly damp when we dug out our trench leading me to think the problem would be solved.Could it be that it just takes a few days to carry away the water as it has been dry now for 3 days? Thanks, Larry
*Time will tell,Gabe
