I am building replacement stairs on a carpenter gothic church. The existing 13″ treads are made from two pieces of 2x lumber painted the same warm gray as the rest of the building. The new stairs need to look like the old ones (National Historic Registry.) I’m looking for a rot resistant material that can be painted immediately. The span between jacks will be about 3 feet.
