I’m in the process of remodeling and adding on to my home. I recently had to remove the blown in cellulose insulation from a 12 by 20 foot area so that I could raise the ceiling. Now I don’t know what to do with the used cellulose. I bagged it all up to haul out of the attic, but I hate to just throw it out. Because of some roof work, the insulation has some wood chips and bits of roofing mixed in with it (I didn’t want to take the time to sort through it while I was bagging it). I’m hesitant to try to blow this back in because of the foreign matter in it. Is there some other use for it? I’ve already insulated the walls in the new area so that’s out of the question. Would this cellulose be suitable to use as mulch when I seed the yard? Could it be used as worm bedding, or do the additives make it unsuitable for use as anything but insulation? I would appreciate any advice I can get on this matter.

*It is treated with fire retardants and borate insecticides. Neither terribly dangerous, but I would check with the mfgr, or at least avoid using it near vegetables and such.Very ecologically minded of you.
