What to use to clean Asphalt Shingles?

Any cautions and/or suggestions about methods (be gentle, yes, I know) cleaning shingles?
Since TSP feeds the fungus, I don’t think that’s the best stuff to use, is it? Or will a really long rinse work in that case?

I seem to rember that a copper wire strung along the roof will leach out something that will kill the groth of moss. I remember one of my professors had a roof that was greener than his lawn and he stuck some copper sheets the size of lisense plates under the ridge cap half exposed. It worked but since he weighed a little to much he broke half of the shakes he steped on. Somebody else may actually be able to explane the actual chemical process, I am only a mechanical engineer.
