Taunton’s book on hardwood floors recommends applying finish with a 12″ brush, but I haven’t been able to find one through flooring supply places. NY or CT would work. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Never seen one either. We apply water based poly with 12" applicator which is like a fine sponge on a stick. You can find them at any Home Depot or building supply distributor, or hardwood floor distributorship.
Good Luck!
*If you are using an oil based poly, there are lambs wool pad applictors like the ones Scooter mentioned. They work great and are much less work than brushing.

I've never been in a **paint** store that didn't have one--they are fluffy sheep's behind lookin' things that hold a TON of finish (needed to produce that smooth finish) You aren't finishing a tabletop, after all. A primer coat of thinned down shellac works great to seal the seams and pores. (PS, don't asphixiate yerself with the finish.)
