Hi
Does anyone know where online I can buy my husband a welders jacket? I’ve tried Harbor Freight, Tool Crib and others without success. Closest I found was welders longsleeve gloves.
Thanks,
Trisha

Try: http://www.american-welding.com/
scroll down to the bottom of their home page...they seem to have shirts and leather products. They have an 800 number too if you want to call. Do a search on 'welding equipment', you'll get lots of leads.

I need to get a jacket and I haven't decided on the traditional leather jacket or one made from synthetic fabric.
Lower end (approx. $50) leather jackets are listed at:
http://www.hoopersupply.com/
What appears to be some type of synthetic jacket is shown at:
http://www.headsupsafety.com/
no prices are listed, but they say they are a "woman owned small business", so hopefully they will tell you everything you want to know by phone or fax.
I know nothing about either of these organizations except what I read on their site. Happy hunting.
*Asked a friend of mine who is a welder about welding jackets, this is his reply:The green colored jackets are made mostly from Nomex material, like firemans turnout gear. These are light wieght and cool to wear but do allow for easier burns and burn through of hot metal. Doing heavy work in the warm weather, I like to cover these with the old leather sleeves for more protection. The cost of these greenies is about $24 each for XXL. The old leather jackets offer the best protection but at a cost around $70. They also are hot as hell in the summer and don't fit over insulated coveralls in the winter. The leathers with the nomex or 100% cotton liners tend to keep you from smelling like a dead cow better than the unlined ones but, if you sweat heavy, it does nothing for the smell. The lined are also a bit more comfortable when only wearing a tank top under them. The metal-X (shiny aluminum looking ones) run about $200 to 400 depending on the type and design. These offer much better protection but are easily damaged from mechanical means. These are great for heavy duty flux core or carbon arc gouging but not well adapted to abusive conditions.
