Went to look at a small job today and was kind of surprised at the mentality of people of where they want to cut costs. They want a 2 story Victorian style house lifted and an 8′ poured concrete foundation put in. Their budgeted price would cover the cost of lifting the house and a very small part of the excavation. I think that a properly placed foundation is a little more important than whether you have marble counter tops ect. These items are easier to change than having to go back and fix a fly by night foundation.

Could not agree more, have raised several houses in this area, all of them Victorian( we have an abundance around here). My bigest problem/concern was always the budget, it is very hard to show/explain to an owner the problems that can be encountered, typically here we run into bedrock or a large nugget that has to be drilled and split. Not to mention all the extra time created by working under the house in confined areas. Don't like doing them anymore.
I lived in Nelson for years but got married this year and moved to the peace and quiet of Rossland.
