Skim-coating with joint compound covers texture, renews old drywall and plaster, and leaves smooth surfaces ready to paint.

The last couple things I've done were electrical and tile, hardly even touched a piece of wood. So I voted "other". The one before was casing trim and crown moulding, miter saw and trim nailer work.

I just finished tiling a shower, which didn't require any tools on your list.
Tomorrow I start framing a deck ( back to working with wood, thank God).
My saws, framing guns, and cordless tools will be getting a workout.
Sliding compound miter
yeah, not having a listing for a compound miter saw?
be what's with dat?
Beware. RFID is coming.
I was shocked. Shocked, I tell ya, shocked! :)
I want a write in candidate, or four...or six...jeeze, why not just come out and ask?<G> I need a dump truck, baby, to unload my head
I still use a hammer more than anything else , Really.

I'm looking for a palm nailer with a copper magnet.
Last & current job, backhoe is it.

My Dump truck got a lot of use, I would use all "hand tools" to keep the dump truck. We take transportation for granted around here....
In addition to the cordless drill, the power miter saw did a lot of work,. and the paslode finish nailer came in handy on this tight job. No cord to trip on.

another controlled poll....
it's the statistics... I tell ya... all about statistics....
I would have said SCMS instead of a TS....
had it been there...

How about some civil disobedience?! We don't post any helpful advice till they redo the poll with a PROPER assortment of tools. Who's gonna join me? Ahh forget it, I doubt anyone would notice [my lack of helpful advice]. <g>

I too am appalled at the serious lack of respect shown for my un-polled and most used tool.
Why does it seem you aren't talking about a SCMS? :)
sounds like a different type of forum is in need...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

I kinda cheated and said router, but it was really a RotoZip. Replacing aluminum windows w/ vinyl & adding some trim, so I made a shooting board, tacked it to the siding and zipped away. With care, I could get the siding and leave the felt. Shooting board on the outside so if (when) the bit bounced, it was in the waste.
Same thing on the inside, cutting back the drywall enough for the vinyl. Faster and less work than a knife, although you definitely need a helper with a vacuum with a good filter.
Holding the depth setting is a bit of a weak point, at least on the model I have- I started using the collet wrench on the knob too.
Of course, a trim nailer was pretty high on the list too, after I got the window flashed in- love that Vycor.
I digressed.
Now wait a minute wait a minute wait just a cottonpickin' minute! I don't have a SCMS and just make do with the 'my rightarm' standard run of the mill dewalt compound mitersaw so maybe just lumping the slider and the standard miter together for the polls sake may make it presentable enough to validate it as a modern poll. But I do have an old somewhat SCMS I think, in that it has the sliding tubes and capability in that respect but the non-hinged head is stationary and the table moves by degrees instead and it says craftsman on in with the words 'Motorized Miter Saw'. Does that count? It comes out on rare occasions with a need. Last time I tried angle cutting a stack of fiberglass shingles on it. Don't advise it.Got nasty. ROAR!
be saying we need a compound mitersaw listing.VOTE HERE...yea.............................nay

now if you had put the blade in backwards it'd have worked better...
now get out there and get it right....
each tool to it's own...
one isn't the other....
but what about the compressor.. 5 weeks of not shutting it off....
and one more thing... this nonsense about you not having a SCMS...
As any woodworker/carpenter/construction guy knows. You can't use "do I need it?" as a criteria for buying a new tool. Whether or not you'll even ever use it is besides the point! For all you confused people out there, I will give you the listed reasons for buying a new tool straight from "The Man Bible" Chapter 35 Section 72 Subsection D Paragraph 23 states:
You simply buy a new tool because:
a) It's there
b) You can
I hope this has cleared up any questions any of you may have for buying new tools, and hopefully relieve some of the guilty feelings you may have about purchasing that new tool with the money you should have spent on a new dishwasher for your wife.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

I did I did I did see a backward blade. Then thought to try forward too.
Utility knife was better, cleaner, faster and easier on the machine.I mean so what, just because it's old, haggled, and a heading towards being a museum piece doesn't mean I get to kick the thing.Besides, it makes a nasty mess.
be unkind to a machine

I guess you're lumping impact driver in with cordless drill?
By far, the impact is my most used power tool.
If you include hand tools I would say:
1) pencil
2) utility knife
3) 6' folding rule
4) cell phone
5) impact driver

Bi-focal safety glasses
Posse box
Starrtett 4" combination square
Speed Square
Story Stick
Construction Master IV
