Will vanity size be ok for sink measurements

BentheThird | Posted in General Discussion on February 27, 2019 08:44pm

We have a 31″w x 21.25″d drop in sink that we want to find a base for. I have read that ideally you want to find a base 1″ narrower  in width and depth than the sink, but we’re having trouble locating this exactly. I found something I really like that is 30″w x 21″d – so a little deeper than we want – and want to know if anyone thinks this will work or be an issue? Thanks!

Where did you read that “ideally” dimension?

Thank you - I read it on the wayfair website where the vanity bottom is for sale.

Can we clarify a little bit? A “drop in sink” is typically defined as a sink bowl ONLY that sits inside a hole in a vanity or countertop. It doesn’t sound as if this is what you are referring to.
It’s sound as though you are referring to a VANITY TOP which happens to have an integral sink.

There is a significant difference. For one thing. A drop in sink requires a cabinet and a top that is LARGER than the sink not smaller and coincidentally that measurement is at least 1” LARGER ON EACH SIDE. So please help us understand so we can help you

Thank you - I think it's a vanity top with integral sink. The measurement of it is 31″width x 21.25″ depth).

    I've attached a picture.

All you need are the interior demensions of the vanity you are looking at. A typical 30: vanity should be fine although that particular top may have interference in the corners where mfg put corner supports. Its easy enough to alter the support location or remove a small portion of it if it has an interference problem.

If you can actually find the MFG of that sink, you might be able to find a PDF of the underside demensions which is really what matters because you need to know what the demensions are on the bearing surfaces.

Honestly, most craftsmen on here could probably make any 30" cabinet fit but you may be better to take that photo with you to the local stores and simply ask for that style of top. They will be able to help you find one and marry it to a base. Lowes, Home Dept and Menards all have custom order desks that will help you.

Thank you. What does MFG stand for?

Typically that style sink is sold with the vanity as a package. Very common at Home Depot and Lowes.
