Hi everyone,
I am repairing some wood double hung windows on a 3 season porch. There are no weights, so I need to put in some type of window channels (what I thought they were called) or maybe they are called balances? The things that go on either side of the windows and allow you to move them up and down without them acting like a guillotine! Any thoughts on what I should use?

I think you want what they call a "spring balance".
I had to do this to 13 double hung wood windows. I used Blaine window hardware inc. 17319 Blaine Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740. I called them and they were very good at helping me. My fix needed tube balances of various sizes, sash carriers, I reused the existing jambliners. I did this in 2001 at that time the # was 1-800-678-1919. Nothing wrong since.

You are correct in your take on Blaine Hdwr.
They have a decent Web presence and once on their mailing list-a qtly or so catalogue.
But, getting in touch with them is the ticket. Have at least a picture and perhaps whatever code number you can get off the sash or window and they are eager to help.
