I am a homeowner who does many home repair/building projects. I discovered that one of my north facing windows had a wooden cap that has rotted. After removing the rotted piece, I discovered some of the texture 1-11 has rotted, as well. Although the plan is to replace the windows and siding, this is NOT the year for windows or siding.
I purchased a new primed wooden cap and also an alum. drip cap to go over and flash the wood. What would you use to fill the holes remaining in the texture 1-11. I will paint the siding using a Cabot solid stain. Thanks, in advance, for any input and direction. Jim

This is hard to say without knowing precisely where the rot is or how bad. It might be the best thing to do is to simply run a piece of flashing material up behind the siding, then lap that flashing over the upper lip on the drip cap. Secure with as few nails as possible (to avoid creating more holes where water can enter).
Depending on the location and the extent of the damage, you may be able to just paint the flashing material and have something visually acceptable. If not, I'd try to find a piece of plywood of similar thickness and texture and piece it into the gaps in the T1-11, over the flashing material.
I've run a drip cap as normal, then kerf the T-111 to get a counter cap, held in with caulk. Eliminates the grooves that run behind the trim flashing and trim..like half of a Z flashing.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
