I proposed a kitchen arrangement for a client yesterday, and he wanted to do something where wall cabinets above countertops end their runs with exposed sides.
We usually just do finish sides, in this situation, with species veneer on the carcase side, or a stile and rail panel. But the client objected to both types finished end looks, and ending the cab short of the countertop run. He is a real linear guy, wants things symmetrical however possible, and all lined up like soldiers in formation.
We discussed some sort of wine rack box to place at these ends, and I dreamed up one that looks like its adjacent cab (in that there is a “door” panel) on the face of the run, and has openings for wine bottles on its side. Attached is the kitchen model, with one of the two wine boxes (the leftmost) in place. Another will go over on the right, above the wall end of the peninsula counter.
The other pic shows some of the detail of the “wine box cab.” I am not too happy with the design.
If you have any kitchen, bar, or wine room installation photos you can post here to help me with ideas, I would appreciate them.

Cool drawing!
Looks like a good plan, but maybe a too hot place for the wine, lessen' it's red and you're gonna' drink it soon - think dark and cool for storage, room temp for drinking.
Forrest - staring at my empty kitchen wine rack as I write this - need to move some up . . .
Keep it simple. Open shelving might be nice too.
I like how you added a soft curve to the counter top. Very elegant.
