I’ve got a 60’s tract home built on slab with linoleum tile flooring. Want to replace the linoleum with wood – either real or manufactured with real wood veneer. BUT – a crack runs right across the slab (including the most visible traffic area), with thebest estimate from a geo-engineer that it resulted from settling shortly after the house was built. So we’ve got a center line along the crack that’s about 1/8 to 1/4″ higher than at a doorway about 6′ away — looks a bit like a crown. Not a problem for walking, just bad looking.
Question – What’s the best way to deal with this as we consider the new flooring. Clearly a moisture barrier is required. But any suggestions as to filling the crack, leveling the uneven slab (which would probably mean a small step up at a key doorway), installing plywood as a substrate, removing/repouring a section of slab, etc.? Suggestions re real wood versus manufactured?
