Hi.I am new to these forums, and fairly clueless about all things building. I am about to renovate an attic to a master suite. I have hardwood floors throughout my house, and would love to put in a wood floor (bamboo, I think) in the attic. It is right over kids bedrooms, though, and I worry about the noise from walking. Can you advise about floating floors and noise reduction, or what I could do to reduce the noise potential of wood floors?

Go to http://www.edelweissflooring.com and drill into the pages about Sika AcouBond. It is a system for glueing down flooring THROUGH an acoustic membrane, the purpose of which is noise reduction (primary) and delivering a cushion feel.
Several products, such as Homasote, are effective at reducing impact noise from travelling through a floor to a room below. Here is their web site.

When I built my house I put 3/4CDX down as the attic subfloor. About 3 years ago I finished the space off. Put down homasote for sound, then bamboo flooring over the homasote.
Worked out well. If the kids are upstairs doing over-the-top kid stuff, we can hear their muffled thumping feet when we're downstairs.
However, for regular attic activities, it's quiet.
Thanks for the info. What brand bamboo did you use, and are you pleased with it?
I sent out for samples from several companies. I settles on TimberGrass (now Teragren). Very nice product. Well-machined T's and G's, no cups/warps like I found in some of the other products. Several flooring stores in my area have now ditched the other lines of bamboo they were carrying and switched to TimberGrass.
I ordered the 6' long planks, they went down fast and easy. I have about 850 sq ft.
I ordered directly from the company (via phone# on website). They ship from Cincinatti and Seattle.
Very happy with it, and I'd use it again.
