Hi all,
Need some help with a question on wood floors for bathrooms. I know, I know, you’re not supposed to put wood in the bathroom, but……….we are.
Details:
2nd floor bathroom addition over existing kitchen
18th century home (timber frame), addition is dimensional lumber
wood floor is going to be southern yellow pine, (very tight grained), milled from old beams (with woodmizer bandsaw), full 1″ thick
joist system for bathroom will be micro lams & 2x’s, raised above 1st floor kitchen ceiling joists (to make room for plumbing)
The question is:
Do I use a subfloor?
If so, plywood or 1x’s
If not, Do I nail them, screw them, glue them?
There is no ventilation between the floor and the kitchen ceiling. I don’t believe that the boards will shrink, after all, the wood is well over 100 yrs old now. The floor boards are about 11″ wide.
Any flooring guys ready to give up some trade secrets?
Thanks in advance. Rod
