It took me longer than I needed to spend to find a source for Quaker Window Fixer replacement channels – even the old time lumber yard hasn’t seen them in years.
Windowfixer.com will get you to Quaker City’s website, where you can order them direct. This will be my second extensive project using them, so, yes, they do work well. (I put them in with flathead screws, so I can easily get them out again.)

Ever try this gizmo? It's a flat piece of netal. About 6" long 1" wide. Its bent in the middle. You slide it between the sash and the window jamb and it has just the right amt of tension to let the windows work and keep them open where you let go of them.
Costs under ten bucks a pair.
I've used them several times with good results on past houses.
Be well

Yes- I have some of those, & they do work ok, but the channels do a better job of draft-proofing. Lots of play in these old windows. Routing & spring brass weatherstrip would be the ultimate, but beyond me ...
But thanks!

Well if your windows have the old cords or chains (I'm guessing they don't). Then Touch N Foam in the weight box does wonders. did a whole house with them when I replaces the old sahes with the MArvin "kit" replacement windows.

A few do, but most of them, I'm guessing, were installed when the house was moved & remuddled in the 1890's. They are 6 over 6 with the upper sash fixed in place with thin strips of wood in what would otherwise be the tracks...does that make them single-hung? Anyway, all that's holding in most of the glass is dirt, & I like to be able to open them at the top sometimes, so it's Quaker channels, & spray foam wherever I can find a void.
These are hundred-year-old sash, not lovingly cared for until now, & still in amazingly good shape, aside from dried out glazing. I was anticipating needing to do a lot of epoxy work on them, but not so. The muntins are quite thick, & the wood looks like quater-sawn pine. They have had aluminum triple-tracks over them since the 50's, so I'm guessing that's why they are not dead, and why I'm keeping the storms, as we discussed in another thread a few weeks ago.
I really appreciate your input! Every time I log onto BT, I learn something new.
How's your house coming along?

Appears we're doing a lot of the same things at the same time : )
Been working on the 12 over 12's in the parlor I'm doing now.
Four windows in there. Two w/ chains and two without. I like the ones without so there aren't any drafty weight boxes.
Theres so much paint on the parting strips the windows won't open so I removed them and the sashes. Power planned the edges of the sashes, MAde new parting strips and pried the interior casings away a hair. They work like new now. AMAZING!!
Even reglazed and primed em' while I had them in my shop. Now I'm in the basement under the parlor installing new floor joists next to the old "tree" joists that are rotting away. Totally disgusting job. With every hit of my hammer while I look up tons of 325 year old dust falls in my face. Echhhhhhh. I'd rather take a bath in fiberglass insulation on a 95 degree day than this...I'll be finished tomorrow (Sunday) thank god. At least I feel "great" about having done it!
Be,tomorrows Sunday??????? Oiy...is it still 05? Daylight savings time yet?

Check your e-mail, Kate. I just sent you some info about wood storm sashes to replace the aluminum.

A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship...
But it is not this day.
Dino - Thanks! The thing about the aluminum ones is, they are here - and so many other things are so badly needed, on my tiny budget...
But in the fullness of time, many things are possible! I am an incurable optimist...fortunately!
