Hey Fellas, I am building a new shop about 1500 sqft
Looking to use 8ft twin t-8 fixtures. Is this the best to use? Is there anywhere online I can buy them. How do I figure how many I need?
Thanks for the help, Lou

Check around I think they are banning t-8 fixtures next year. I know it's one of the fluorescents. Some energy conservation crap. You won't be able to buy bulbs or ballasts or tombstones for them.
They won't sell you a gun if you are crying.
I thought is was the larger T12's
Go T8's w/ electronic ballasts. Close to HO's. We just replaced about 150 ballasts and bulbs last year.
Yea I think your right. t-12's sound more like it.

I just swithced my small shop to T8's.
According to the package the fixtures came in:
T8's use 20% less energy, than T12's.
Last 1.5 times longer.
2 times brighter for same wattage.
Instant on, no flicker or hum.
These fixtures can take T8 or T12.
The link below is to a GE lighting estimator. You can look up (or google search) for a recommended lighting level for workshops, etc. (I think workshops are in the 750-1,000 footcandle range) and use this calculator to come up with a resonable estimate of fixtures/lamps needed.

good riddance to the T12's.
I've been annoyed for years that the T8's and T5's weren't readily available for HO's at the big boxes (I've just started seeing T8's there within the last year).
