Wrong wall board in bathroom?
I thought I read on a thread recently that a guy might as well use regular dry wall as use that green board as long as it’s painted properly. I did that on the two walls away from the shower as part of a rennovation project that developed from having to install an exhaust fan. Probably won’t use it again in a bath but don’t really want to tear out what I’ve done so far but don’t want to have to tear it out later either after it’s turned to a mushy mess. I’d appreciate any thoughts on the matter.
thanks,

Green board handles "incidental" dampness and humidity far better than regular drywall. (Some of the new unfaced boards are better still.) However, it's probably not worth tearing out the board at this stage, especially if you have decent ventillation and the board is well-protected with paint.
If the joint between floor and wall is still exposed, however, it's worth it to run a knife through to create a definite gap (if there isn't one already) so that any moisture on the floor doesn't get wicked up into the wallboard.
Countless bathrooms have been done with regular drywall without problems. With sufficient moisture, neither drywall will last indefinitely.
If you haven't painted already, using an oil-based primer (which blocks moisture better) would be good additional insurance.
Ditto what DonCanDo said. Also agree with DanH.
