Zip Sheathing or plywood felt on 1949 house in Dallas
I have a house built in 1949, in Dallas, TX that currently has vinyl siding laid over D 105 pine siding. I need to remove the vinyl siding because of cracks and holes. I also know that I have some rot under the vinyl and plan on taking siding down to studs. I don’t think overhang will allow covering the D 105 siding. Just replacing the D 105 rotten boards might be an option but would have to strip the paint off the old siding. I sure it has lead paint. I am planning on covering the sheathing with LP lap siding. My concern is the Zipp system will not allow the old house to breathe enough. Which system would be best Zip or plywood with 30 pound felt?

I am unsure why you want your house to breathe much in Dallas. Moving here was a shock, building construction especially. If you are planning on removing the old, let science help prevent history from repeating itself.
There are benefits to houses breathing yes. But mostly to dry out when they get wet. Improve your indoor air quality, improve the comfort of your home, and prevent the intrusion of water from the house as much as possible. Having half the house built air tight will not cause problems. When you are making repairs keep improving the design within your means. Zip is a great product when installed as designed. If you have the opportunity exterior insulation and a rainscreen airgap will benefit you from paying to heat and cool in this moody Dallas weather.
