This is a six sided gazebo I singlehandedly designed and built learning as I’d go. The 18 foot pilings are 12 feet above ground and 6 feet below. Since it’s beachfront all hardware is stainless. The roof structure was complex to think through and frame together. It also features a cupola. The thatched roof is comprised of over 600 palm fronds which were painstakenly collected in the wild and intricately installed sort of shingle style with copper roofing nails. It’s weatherproof and cool under. A radial arm saw I received as a gift (thanks Diana) was used for the entire project.

The days after hurricanes Francis and Jeanne went through. The yard is a mess and suprisingly the thatched roof is still intact. That is sand covering everything in the yard, blown in by hurricane force winds.
