Another way to keep your paint brushes clean.

Tiki supervising one of our exterior house painting jobs.
When it's not too hot out, and our customers approve, Tiki comes with me and the crew to supervise our exterior painting jobs. You can count on him to find a shady tree somewhere, and count on him to keep a diligent eye on everyone climbing a ladder or scaffolding.
Tip: How to keep those good (and expensive) polyester brushes in top condition. Whenever I put a new brush to work (latex brushes only), I find it is much easier to clean up, and prolong the life of my brushes by first treating it a solution of fabric softener and water. Pour 1 and 1/2 cups of fabric softener and 3 gallons water into a clean 5 gallon pail (one with a lid). Soak the bristles of the new brush in this solution for a minimum of 2 hours. Wring it out and store it in its package. When it comes time to paint bring along that bucket of fabric softener solution, and when your brush gets clogged or is done for the day, swish it vigorously in the solution for several seconds. When you take it out you'll find you brush is almost as clean as when it was new. Keep this solution to clean all of you latex paint brushes. You'll still need to comb them out and rinse them with water every now and then, but your brushes will stay in great shape.
