GREEN BARN 80 % RECYCLED CONTENT
comments (0) August 6th, 2011 in Project GalleryWe were hired to restore an old bank barn built about 1880 , once we got fully into it it became evident that there was too much insect damage to save the building . we salvaged everything we could and began to build a duplicate of the original using as mucjh reclaimed lumber as possible . the wall sheathing came from the original barn as well as a 300 year old building that was comning down . the new timbers came from blowdowns that happened during a winter storm. the roof sheathing came from urban timber the doors were reclaimed from an old carriage house that was coming down . we took them apart and shrunk them in size. there was enough wood lefty over to build the gable end door. the door hardware was taken off an old barn . You get the point we were able to get about 80 % of the board footage required from alternative sources. when you go inside it looks like a 100 year old barn.
