I recently used this plane to smooth several interior door frames that had been scratched to death by a few unfourtuate dogs and a cat, who were kept prisoner in a few bathrooms. It really saved some time by avoiding the coarse sanding and avoiding replacing the trim. It is small enough to fit in the tool pouch, without being a nusiance. I like it because it's inexpensive and effective. This is a great tool to have in the box for general repairs (i.e. replacing doors and fixing damaged trim)

I have used this small plane for years. Perfect for when installing wood shingles. Fits in your pouch, not heavy. You can plane the edge of one by in a pinch but you'll work at it.
