This is our effort to settle the now age-old competition between the television and the fireplace for the focal point of a room.  We wanted the television to be invisible when no one was watching it.  When someone is watching, the TV is visible from the main gathering room of the moment - the living room OR the kitchen/dining room. 

The entertainment center appears to be a built-in cabinet between the kitchen and the living room when closed.  With the doors open, the TV can be seen from the kitchen island or the dining room table.  The entire cabinet hinges open to face the living room and is perfectly visible from the seating which is arranged around the fireplace.

The cabinet is built of cherry with ebony inlay accents.  The wide, bi-fold doors use heavy duty hinges and glides to tuck out of the way.  All the entertainment electronics have a spot on the shelves and DVDs and other media are held in the drawers.  The cabinet is attached to the wall with a piano hinge and rolls on two quiet rolling casters.  The metal arc on the floor for the casters provides the owners with a great conversation piece.
