After renovating a beautiful Victorian home in Santa Cruz, we moved to Washington to build a Craftsman style home. We wanted it to look like it fit in it’s environment, in the traditional style. With rare exception, my husband built it by himself. One of my jobs was to tile the fireplaces. After recovering from sticker shock of period and reproduction tiles, I decided to be true to style with more acessible Big Box slate. The hearth piece was scrap from the kitchen island granite. You can see the entire project at www.WashNewOldHouse.blogspot.com. Thanks for letting me share our project.
