Wood Floor Art: Blue Pine Spiral
The Blue Pine Swirl was inspired by the moon light that shines in this room every month. The pistol grip log was from the inital excavation of the home and was allowed to blue up before turning it into flooring. Nintyeight percent of the flooring was logs cut from the property. Several “cartoon” pictures were drawn up for the inital design and one was chosen by the owners. The actual design outcome was driven by the wood plank shapes and colors, flow of the room, the room theme and the abitlity to make them all work together.
I was able to create pine cones in the floor from real pine cones. Rounding up 60 so pine cones. The sides of the cones where cut off to the thickness of the flooring. The real cones were fitted into the cone shaped holes in the floor.
Keeping with the pine cones and needles theme, the neighboring tile and hardwood floors were detailed in a similar fasion. The center hexagons have since been fitted with a Galaxy granite tile.
