Owens Corning’s traditional pink fiberglass insulation has made a big change. There is no change in R-value, no change in the product lineup, and no change in price. The company assures us that the new EcoTouch products will also cut and install with no additional hassle. So what’s different? The binder that holds the glass fibers together to make rolls and batts is being replaced. Owens Corning has been using a formaldehyde binder for the past 70 years, but with an increased focus on indoor-air quality, the company decided to switch to a natural plant-based binder they’re calling PureTouch. Even those who don’t subscribe to green-building practices will appreciate that this insulation requires no dust mask and won’t leave you itchy. EcoTouch will be avialble in stores starting in April 2011, beginning on the East Coast and then moving west.
