When Headcote color-matched deck screws were first released, the synthetic-decking market had only a limited number of color choices, so the manufacturer offered customers only five screw colors: black, brown, tan, gray, and white. To keep up with the wider variety of decking now available, Headcote has expanded its line to include 10 new color-head stainless-steel deck screws.
The five original Headcote colors are available in lengths from 1 5/8 in. to 3 in., and in both trim-head and conventional flathead styles. The newest 10 colors are available only in #7 by 21/4-in. trim-head screws, which the company says is the best-overall size for laying composite and hardwood decking. To help match planks with the right screw color, Headcote’s Web site has a free color-reference chart, which is updated as new decking is released.
