In episode 648 of the Fine Homebuilding Podcast, Austin from North Carolina asks for the team’s opinions on the best retaining wall materials. He wants to build one in his sloped backyard and is considering different materials, including timber, dry-stack stone, and modular concrete blocks.
While there’s not much of a cost difference between stone and modular blocks, Austin is concerned about the potential chemicals in timber. He asks, “Do you know if timber retaining walls were injected with chemicals back then? Are any chemicals still used in existing timber wall materials?” The team chimes in.
