Born in Chicago, Bede Van Dyke lived as a child in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Houston, Texas. After earning his architecture degree from the University of Houston and working with several Houston architects, he spent 2-1/2 years in Taos, N.M., building with adobe and mud. Bede moved to Michigan in 1975, initially teaching design, art, and architecture before joining furniture maker Herman Miller. These days, Bede lives and works in the “dog-run/atrium house” featured in FHB #174. For more details, visit www.bedevandyke.com.
