After earning her master’s degree at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Jo Landefeld worked 70-hour weeks for most of the first 13 years of her architectural career. In 1994, after her first daughter was born, Jo took an alternative path and opened her own office. Now working part time, she does residential design while balancing the demands of two precocious daughters and their many activities. Jo lives with her husband and daughters in an old Craftsman foursquare that is always in need of renovation in Portland, Ore.
