I just purchased the internet special on Grizzly. The 8inch jointer for $595, I hope its a good one. However, I bought it knowing that my old house has no 220 volt outlets and I dont know much about electrical. If i have to install another breaker, I think I need an electrician because the main box is a mess. I doubt there are any other solutions but just thought I’d ask. It comes friday Wooohooo! wish i could use it 🙂
thanks everybody

Congrats! They are a decent machine. I had one A LONG time ago..along with the 20" planer, and 5hp Dust sucker.

Adding a 220 outlet isn't too big a deal, but if you don't know much about electrical and the box is a mess, an electrician is what you need. Congrats on the new purchase!
Have the electrician straighten out the old panel and add a new sub panel for you.
That will give you room to grow as you purchase more tools to satisfy your addiction :)
That jointer is just the beginning.
Seek help now, or just add the sub panel and enjoy your passion.

I've owned mine for 4 years now and it's jointed over 20,000 bd.ft. of wood so far for me with no maintinace.. (other than sharpening blades)
Mine came damaged from the shippers and when I called Grizzly they had every part that was broken here in 24 hours!(no charge!)
I've since bought a lot more of their tools and am very happy with them..
I use my dryer outlet and just made up a 220 volt extension cord. (Don't think of using a 120 volt cord and just replacing the ends!
I have an 8" in my garage/woodshop. First thing I did when I moved in was to have an electrician put a 200 AMP box in my house and run a sub box into the shop. Been there for 7 years and it has worked great... I use the jointer all the time and have had 0 problems. good luck.
