Anybody have a handy guide/webpage for different types of crushed/recycled stone? I asked for 3/4 minus, and got 3/4 only at an out of town quarry. Is 2A modified the proper term? Also, what is the difference between that and CR-6 ( or recycled concrete, RC-6?)? Aggregate size? I’ve used RC-6 for driveway bases in the past, works well, but a bit worried about compacting with a plate compactor for walkways (current project). The RC-6 saves a few bucks over the 2A mod, any different, or just harder to level with the larger aggregate? Any crushed rock experts out there?!?!
Thanks!

This has been discussed at times before and, if there's anything in construction with regional nomenclature difference, it's with rock.
Here on the West Coast, 3/4" minus is 3/4" minus. The only variation may be after sediment tests as, for example, logging roads in Federal timberland allow only small percentages of soil in the fines, whereas 3/4" minus destined for a compaction surface under concrete slabs in residential driveways are rarely, if ever, tested and moderate levels of contamination are mostly irrelevent.
It sounds like what you got is called (out here) 3/4" open which isn't desireable for compaction purposes because it lacks the fines to fill and bind. It works fine for drainage rock or as one part of the basic 3-part formula for concrete (the other being sand and portland cement).
I've never looked for any rock websites, but I suppose there are some. I worked in a rock crushing operation for awhile a number of years ago, but have forgotten most of the specifics.
However, I still use various rock "formulations" in the construction I do now, and, for my needs, the old definitions remain the same, with most of my rock deliveries coming from 3 different quarries.
I have no experience with recycled concrete.
BTW, this might be a good topic for a FHB feature....maybe help bring about some standardized terminology.
Thanks for the reply. I agree on the regional differences- I think that was the problem. From what I can gather on the web, PA, where I got the stone, even has diff. definitions between what is normally used and the DOT names for things.
Recycled concrete has worked in the past, so might see if I can use that- I *think* I know the proper term for that.
On the FHB feature, I agree- differences in compaction, proper uses, aggregates best suited for certain purposes, and names would be nice. If the search function on here ever worked, maybe I could find those previous discussions!
