Hi All,
I’ve got a unit in an old mill building, circa 1900, with three huge double hung windows (3 over 3 vertical). I think they’re original, sash wieghted, leaky as heck.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for replacing them with something a little better insulated. 4 feet wide by 8 feet tall seems to be a tall order. Should I consider breaking them up into two dbl hung wide with a transom or something?
The other bad part is that the view out of these windows is lousy. I look right into a 20 x 20 courtyard. The view sucks, but the light coming in is great.
Any ideas?

Marvin Windows can make a window to fit pretty much any opening. They make a heavier frame window ror larger sizes. A window thats 4' x 8' will be pricey, but they're available.
To make installation easier, remove the sashes, set just the frame, and re-install the sashes.
How about making the opening smaller and putting awnings, or transom-over-awning up high so you get the light but block the view?
