Ladies and Gentlemen
A Minute of your Time, in Remembrance
Today my fears were realized, on Wednesday afternoon I heard on CBC radio that a water bomber had gone down near Cranbrook, B.C.
I found out this morning that it was my friend from Rossland, Ian MacKay and his co-pilot Eric Ebert from Toronto.
My wife Lainey and I lived next door to Ian and Laura with their four children, and as only children are able, we quickly became aquainted, everyone was always welcome in our house ( they loved to bring their friends to play with with Lainey’s ferrets).
We lived in a small block of houses with an old gold creek running through our back yards in Rossland, which is only a tiny town, and before I moved there, ( to my wife’s place), I could only imagined having neighbours’ such as Ian and Laura.
Ian lived to fly, and was based out of Castlegar, B.C. In the few years that I knew him he flew his aircraft over fires in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alberta, B.C. whenever, wherever, these ladies gentlemen were always ready.
Please take a moment this summer to think of all the courageous men and women who risk their lives, everyday, and all too often are injured and killed fighting fires caused by the carelessness of others.
For Laura and all their family,
so long for now,gtw

Sorry, I posted the same article , here is the other.
P.S. On a lighter note, I originally wrote " Sorry, I posted the same article, twice" . Do this mean I am a natural, and always have to be a slave for the Department of National Redundancy Department.

Sorry to hear this. Brave people doing tough jobs and trying to help people. Tragic.
If he was like most pilots I know he went down doing what he loved.
He has my respect and best wishes for his family.
<Hangs head in meditation and out of respect.>
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.
My heart and prayers go out for your friend and for his surviving wife and children. May they find comfort in the love and caring of friends and from whatever spiritual beliefs they may hold.

The love of flying is hard to explain and hard to understand.
That they died doing something they loved in the brave service of others, that makes them heroes in my book.

Not sure if this helps but it seems fitting for any horrible death at any age.
Sorry about your friend.
Be well

In his first interview since the stroke, Ram Dass, 66, spoke with great difficulty about how his brush with death has changed his ideas about aging, and how the recent loss of two old friends, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg, has convinced him that now, more than ever, is the time to ``Be Here Now.''

Its just what its really about is all.......like from the bible.there is a season.ya know?
Our destiny is in our and our loved ones hearts which will always live on and grow.....no one actually dies in my opinion....they just keep adding seeds and its those that dont understand that that are the angry and scared people....I wish my grandparents were alive today so much but....they so are in me!
Be well Bob

I particularly appreciate that letter because it honors the pain and grief we feel when losing a loved one (none of that unthinking "get over it; get on with your life") and celebrates and gives hope through the love shared.

A thread in itself Bob.....I also hate when someone tells a loved one not to worry because they arent dying when they know they are.
Its the denial that keeps some from living all the experiances that come to all of us. And, not to be afraid. Its just the suffering thats so difficult.
Be well bro

I pray that the strength of yesterday's memories, today's friends and a faith in tomorrow's promise will carry you, and the families who have suffered this loss, through the dark hours ahead. May the God of grace and peace be with you all.

I wish I had inherited my father's eloquence in times like this...
But I didn't, so I'll just second the good words of the others who've already posted.
Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
Thank you for the thread. I worked with water bomber crews years ago in Quebec, Canso Flying Boats. The pilots knew their job, and took the risks to do it well. Fighting forest fires is tough work, necessary work, honourable work.
I saw the small article in the Toronto newspaper, below all the world news headlines and stories and figured that the loss of the fire fighting crew would for the most part go un-noticed. Very glad it didn't and you were able to tell us about your neighbours.
