I have old foot square vinyl (linoleum) tiles in a rental unit. Some corners are curled and/or broken. I suspect they contain a$be$to$ and would like to cover rather than tear out.
What is best method? Floor leveler and more tile, or can I use snap together type stuff right on top?
Would like to avoid a new underlayment.

While 9-inch floor tile almost always contains asbestos, 12-inch floor tile may or may not.
You can have it tested.
Check your state regulations, you, as the homeowner, may be allowed to remove it yourself.
You will get a better floor by taking it up instead of going over it. If the unit is occupied, it would be safer and quicker to install laminate right over top.
After I posted, I am almost sure it is 9x9. Almost equally sure it is asbestos.
I'd go over it.
I think the method to remove it is to lay damp newspapers on top.
Dry ice.

on my rentals i'm dealing with this by using 1/4 hardi and 1.00 a ft porclean tile.
if you look at cost you'll go down for less than 2.00 a ft,hardi, tile, thinset, grout.
my experence with putting sheet goods over old tile,is before long a renter tears it moving thr fridge and i'm righ back where i started.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
