Adding attic insul around HVAC hardware
Our attic framing is 2×4 scissor trusses; Current insulation is blown in fiberglass, which is roughly the depth of the bottom truss cords. We need more! (house in in Central CT).
Based on reading past threads, I understand blown-in cellulose to be preferred over FG batts, but in our case, we have a central AC air handler (+ supply trunk and flex-duct) sitting in the attic space. How would you handle blowing in cellulose around the air handler, which needs to be accessed for regular maintenance?
Seems to me that batts might be a better fit in this case, but I’m hoping to be educated to the best option! Thanks.

Have you thought about using rigid foam insulation? You can cut the sheets to match the surfaces of your air handler, then either adhere them to the air handler (Great Stuff foam would work), or use tape at the corners. That way you could remove the panels for service.
