Calvin,
Tom,
Is that a pair of 24″ doors or 48″?
– Yes
And do you mean size of nail to fasten jamb to rough opening?
– Yes
Stain or paint, just don’t beat the crap out of the doors, it’s harder to invisibly repair something that gets stained.
Interior or exterior doors?
-Yes

Joe,
I admit I'm a novice but think I think with a little advice I might be able to tackle the project.
I have built and hung an interior door before. I made it from tongue-in-groove 3/4" paneling and used it as a door to a crawl space area. I had knocked a hole in a wall (approx 4'x5') to gain access to a crawl space to do wiring work and use the crawl space as storage. I framed out the area, built a door, prehung the door into a jamb I built, then shimmed the door into the frame which already had 1"x6" on top of 2"x4" framing.

Tom,
A "yes" answer to an either/or question is not an answer.
Is the door two 24" doors OR is the door one 48" door? A "yes" does not answer this question.
Is the door an interior door OR is the door an exterior door? Again, a "yes" does not answer this question.

*Tom,I'm with Joe on this one. Your second door hanging of your life, if you actually count the first one, could be a mucked up disaster with french doors. Why not hire a carpenter and work along with him or just watch? Won't cost a lot, doors will look good, no trips back to home depot, and you learn. But, you could spend some time researching the topic in the archives so that you don't look bad when the guy shows up!Mad Dog(Trying to be delicate but fear I'm not succeeding)
*Tom,If you decide to do this yourself, look at this website Hometime hanging doorsThe doors you bought should have some long screws. You take out a screw from each hinge and replace with the long screws to go into your framing. Be sure you have shims behind the hinges.Make sure you test the doors to be sure they clear your floor covering before you permanently attach the jambs. Good luck

I am going to try installing 48-inch pre-hung interior French Doors. What size nails should be used to fasten the door to the frame (I haven't framed out the opening yet). Keep in mind, I will be staining, not painting - does that affect how I do the job?
Thanks in advance!
