Howdy: I am interested in purchasing my first air compressor to run a framing nailer and a stapler. Your suggestions and experiences would be valuable. Thanks!

The information i got was if you don't load it in and out of a truck look at the oil bath one with high CFM. The price point seem to be $300 to start for a good unit with a 20 to 30 gallon tank.
Choose your system based on the tool that has the highest CFM requirements. I didn't! you know Taunton has had several articles about this in hte last several years but for me they didn't address the stationary systems but as usuall good information to think on.

Call me a heretic, but I'd recommend a small portable oil-less compressor for your needs. I've got both a 20 gal oil-bath cast iron compressor and a one cylinder oil-less Makita. The Makita is now the one I use almost exclusively. Follows me everywhere and will run off 15amp 115 volt outlet. Despite the small size it will keep up with my framing gun, unless I'm nailing off sheathing or some other fast paced situation.

Put me in the pancake, oilless camp. Bought a Sears Industrial( because it was on sale) just for the air nailers. Works great. Maybe not the greatest in the world but it is cheap, easy to move, can be used off a generator when needed and does the job. Just be sure to drain the air tank daily. I am surprised how much water collects in just a day.
*4 Gallon, 1 1/2 to 2 hp motor, 3.5+ CFM @ 90psitwin tank or pancake. I'd go oilless, but if you find a deal on an Emglo...
*I run a 4 gun crew off a 1 1/2 hp, emglo, "low AmP", oil bathed from Home Depot, at about 325$It is by far the best choice that I have ever made!I had an oiless t 150 that was dependable but sloooooooow. I coudn't run two guns off it.Blue
