I had a 100 amp circuit breaker box installed in my home and the electrician used aluminum wiring to hook up the box to the outside electrical meter and pole. Is this ok?

Yes. Aluminum wire is OK in larger sizes, in applications with clamp type terminals, and antioxidant paste. If you had a licensed electrician do the job it would be reasonable to assume that it was done correctly. The problems that occured with al wires were in smaller sizes, with wire nuts and screw or push-in type terminals.

Carolyn, I have spent 25 years in the electrical trade and can honestly say that I beleive aluminum is a good cheap substitude for these type of feed applications.

Carolyn, Nothing wrong or dangerous about using Al. for service feed to your meter and then to the house. The only noteworthy things to bear in mind is 1)Take extra care on the backfill of the trench. No sharp rocks, nails ect. in the fill.ANY SLIGHT BREAK IN THE XLPE INSULATION WILL CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE WIRE.Dont worry, the insulation is very durable, but some guys dont think past your check clearing and fill the trench with whatever is there. Also an anti oxidant coating needs to be applied at all termination points,ie. meter and main breaker.
