The Volvo Ocean Race starts Sunday from Southhampton, England. Coverage in online at http://www.volvooceanrace.org/homepage.html and http://www.nationalgeographic.com/volvooceanrace/. Television coverage is on the National Geographic Channel.
There are 8 hot-rod 64′ sailboats competing; one is an all-female crew. The race will last a total of about 9 months, covering 32,700 miles in 9 or 10 legs. I’ve seen no evidence of disruption due to recent events, and I don’t imagine there will be as this isn’t really high-profile and who wants to attack a sailboat in the middle of nowhere anyway?
There will be lots of video from this race; all the boats have 3 cameras that record constantly, and teams can save and send anything exciting.
