anyone dabble in stone manufaturing?
I guess I got a wild hair itching me right now… seems that I can’t get away from people asking me if I’ll install their premanufactured granite tops. Now I have a project in the far away hills that I can’t seem to find some one to do a complete mable bath. Plus a 2 large kitchens, and a remodel kitchen/bath remodel of my own house.
I swore that I ‘d never do solid surface again, but I never said anything about real stone. Towards the end of my solid surface “career” I telling clients that I would rather but real stone in my own house.
So I have been looking into tooling costs
Airfed wet/grinder polisher $210
5″ wetsaw with contour diamond blade $225-$325
3/4″ demi bullnose diamond bit $169
complete set of diamond grinding pads to 3000 grit $100-
Misc accessories $200-$300
I have all the other saws/blades etc.
Totals around $1000.00
I have a place to do the work and the available time.
Anyone else get into doing this and/or what is your take on it?

My take: It is skilled work, and you have a transferable skill set, plus a lot of the tools you'll need, already paid for. If it's what you want to get into, then go for it, and charge accordingly.
