Will pulling 1600 underlayment staples from asbestos containing vinyl flooring create a health risk?
The bottom layer of vinyl flooring in our kitchen contains asbestos in the backing–40% according to the laboratory that did the test.
Last week, two layers of vinyl (non-asbestos containing) were taken up. Then a layer of 1/4 OSB. The OSB was held down by staples. When the OSB was taken up the staples remained.
At this point, the kitchen floor has the original layer of undistrubed asbestos containing vinyl and about 1600 underlayment staples sticking out from it.
If it won’t create a health risk, I would like to take up the staples. Will pulling up the staples bring asbestos up from the underlayment and contaminate the kitchen?
Does anyone have experience and advice?
Thank you.
Timothy
