this is an extremely broad and basic question, but what’s the best way to attach a table top to the skirts/legs.
It’s and oak oval table. I do not have a pocket hole system.
I was thinking screws through the skirts ,but would that not be good enough for wood movement? what about a dado in the skirt and an L shaped peice of wood screwed to the tabletop?

Andy,
I did a smaller rectangular table about 10 years ago and used the dado, Lshaped wood attachment. It is still holding up great. Did it that way after seeing Norm do it on the new yankee workshop.
Ask over in FWW if they have any newer better methods.

P.S. double check the length of your screws :) Not speaking from experience.

What Deskguy said is a good way, another one is figure 8's. They look like two washers welded together. You put one screw through one hole into the top of your skirt and another screw through the second hole into the bottom of your table top. I use a spade bit to do a 1/8" counter bore on the skirt so that the figure 8 does not hold the top up off the skirt by that 1/8".
Orient these figure 8's so that they allow for wood movement, something that you NEED to do. Deskguys method does that as well.

This is the easiest way that I know.
Thats the ones I used ina furniture shop, I snagged a few boxes and haven't bought them in years. You can groove the apron with a biscuit joiner instead of a whole length saw kerf.
Lately, I have just used blocks and oversized holes. With this new thing called central heat and air, table tops are a lot more stable than the old days.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Groove your apron prior to assembling the frame. Make brackets to fit. Attach table.
