Attaching Mid-Span Guard Post to Solid Stringer for Deck Stairs

According to the DCA-6 guidelines by the American Wood Council (Fig 28), deck stairs using solid 2×12 stringers can span up to 13 ft 3 inches horizontally without mid-span support posts. However, if you design deck stairs that make use of this maximum span (no mid-span support posts), you face the problem of attaching mid-span stair guard posts to the stringers alone. Is there a recommended way for attaching a guard post in this situation? Mike Guertin does a great job of explaining deck guard post attachments for many situations, but not this one. I would really appreciate some guidance.

I think the original poster was asking about mid-span. You seem to have read that as mid-spam
