I’m installing baseboard over existing carpet, mainly because I was told that carpet should be installed first by a contractor, and I want to know how to keep the baseboard from pressing to hard against the carpet. In other words, how can I float the baseboard on top of the carpet so it can be removed, if needed in the future. Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Weewood,
I would hold your baseboard up about 3/8" to 1/2" off the floor depending on the pile of your carpet. The carpet installer then will tuck the carpet under the baseboard. You should always install the baseboard first so you can paint. By installing the base you wont have to worry about how you are going to cut into the bottom of the base and have the option to spray your base which will be much faster and look a lot better then painting by hand.
