Does anyone have experience bending large double pane 1/2 inch glass panels about 7 x 11 feet about long axis. Will be part of exterior wall about 100 feet long on radius of about 80 feet. Worried about integrity of seal being damaged during bending. (Heated over a radiused mandrel. Bending via gravity.)

Malcolm,
Although I have ordered thermal glazing that had a radius, it can't be bent after it's sealed.

Gabe, is the proper sequence bend, anneal and then seal? (Also need tinting and low emissivity). I live in Southern California. Who would you recommend as a source of either info or product? The order will be large enough to ship from anywhere. Probably around 1800 sq ft.

Double glazing in SoCal? Why?
*Double glazing keeps heat in... or out! Low E / partial mirror also helps in high solar gain climates.
*Hi Malcolm,I'm in Eastern Ontario Canada so I'm not familiar with your suppliers out there. Look under commercial glazing, in the yellow pages. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks to all. I'm building right on the ocean bluff (sun sets in the west) facing due northwest. With 1400 square feet of glass facing that direction and temps getting down into the 30's in the winter you can imagine what the heating problem would be. In summer its the reverse. The radiant heat would be economically impossible to cool. Blinds and curtains are unacceptable because of the view considerations. Working with a specialty glass bending supplier in Southern California . Thanks again. I'm sure I'll be back with other questions.
*Malcom, Sounds like you got an artichoke there. 1400 sqft glass good god! I'll bet that no one has thought about how (let alone who) to clean those windows. Good luck.Lisa
*I currently have 600 sq ft glass facing ocean front. I've been using Windex/Exterior. Spray and rinse with a garden hose once a month. Takes about half an hour. Works like a charm. Even removes salt spray film. Costs about $3/1000 sq ft.

... still ... well, I imagine this is "modern" construction without shading from vegetation or overhangs ...
I've heard of "southern glazing" (E-coating) to keep the heat out but never seen any numbers as to how effective it actually is.
*Sounds beautiful. But I would add overhang shading of some sort to block the sun economically. Or an exterior movable shade of some sort for when (the majority of the time?) the view isn't important, thick curtains inside to insulate at night. The UV exposure must be tremendous -- fading problems? Some of our things got scorched living 2 yrs. in a glassy high-rise.Where is this? Santa Barbara area?
*Just out of curiosity what is the budget for this project?
*Glass would have to be bent before sealing as the two sheets would have a different radiusCheck out the "Thomas Register" at a library oronline at something like http://www.thomasregister.com Scott
