I have a Milwaukee 11 Amp w/orbital action and counterbalance, keyless blade change and shoe adjustment, as well as 2 Industrial Craftsmans that I suspect are Dewalts in lineage. These saws are only 6.5 amps, but they are lightweight, have 2 speeds, Hex key blade clamp, fixed shoe, and are cheap enough that I will torture them mercilessly!
I like what I have heard about the new AVT Makita(15 amp, orbital and counterbalanced) I was wondering what saws you guys use and what you think of them?

I have the AVT, and love it. Just a few things to keep in mind, though ...
First, it's heavy ... feels quite front-heavy. Yet, this weight seems to really help with cutting, and vibration absorption.
Second, it comes 'out of the box' set on an extremely aggressive orbital settimg. You'll probably want to knock it back a notch or two.
bubbajames,
I owned a Milwaukee sawzall as well and when it came time to up grade I grabbed their newest big one and headed for the checkout. The Hilti rep stopped me and asked me to try his version..
I Leaned on the sawzall almost to the point of stalling trying to cut thru a 4x4 quickly. I forget exactly how many seconds it was, maybe 55 seconds or so..
I then took that blade out the Miwaukee put it in the Hilti and went at it with the same force about two inches away on the 4x4. less than 15 seconds!
The electronic feeback circuit allowed me to lean on the Hilti as hard as I could and yet not slow it down at all. That Hilti is now 4 years old and when it dies I'm buying another!
I not only tore my old house down with it and sawed it into small pieces to be tossed into the dumpster I aslos cut a lot of my big timbers with it as well . even my 16 inch circular saw won't cut thru a 12x12 oak beam, the Hilti will, without slowing down! as fast as my skilsaw will cut thru a 2x4
Try one for yourself..
I just picked up the Hilti from my used tool guy - it's the 900 series with the orbital action and variable speed. Haven't used it yet, but it just feels right in you hands, and if it performs as described above, than I think I'll be sellling my Bosch 1634 (The original 10am super duty sawzall)Plus it's made in Leightenstein - name me one other brand that can boast that, huh?Not even sure where that is....Julian
